Reawakening:
Stories by the Fire
Saturday, September 26 | 5:30 – 8:00 p.m.
Ball’s Falls Conservation Area
This September, step away from the pace of everyday life and into the landscape for Reawakening: Sounds of the Fire to Fireside Storytelling – an immersive evening of Indigenous story, song, teachings, music, and sound.
Gather around the fire, set your intentions and offer gratitude to All Our Relations before embarking on the Sounds of the Forest Sonic Trail. Following Twenty Mile Creek through the Carolinian Forest, the trail brings Indigenous voices, songs, and teachings into relationship with the land, water, trees, plants, and animals of Ball’s Falls.
Along the journey, contributions from Elder Dave Labbé, Joe Shawana, Quinna Hamby, and Grandmother Jackie Labonte and Nicole Joy-Fraser invite you to listen differently – to the forest, to the water, and to the stories held within the landscape.
The evening culminates around the fire with acclaimed Huron-Wendat violinist, composer and storyteller Geneviève Gros-Louis. Gros-Louis will share the Huron-Wendat Creation Story of Ya’ta’: Yätaentsic, Sky Woman, and the beginning of Turtle Island, along with Huron-Wendat story carried within the name of Lake Ontario, Ontari’io.
Come listen. Gather. Connect.
Created for guests of all generations, Reawakening: Sounds of the Forest to Fireside Storytelling is an invitation to slow down, connect with community and experience the landscape in a new way.
